A fatality involving a contractor has been reported by Argonaut Gold at its Magino Mine open-pit construction project outside Dubreuilville.

In a news release, the Toronto mining company said the incident occurred on Nov. 14 at 10:57 a.m. involving a contractor working on the construction of the mill facility. Argonaut is calling it an isolated incident.

The company said it is working with authorities in investigating the cause of the incident.

Magino is located 14 kilometres outside Dubreuilville and 195 kilometres north of Sault Ste. Marie. The company had reported two weeks ago of the significant progress it had made in the ongoing construction of the pit, scheduled to go in commercial production next April.

"We are profoundly saddened by this accident,” said Argonaut President-CEO Larry Radford in a statement.

“The safety of our employees and contractors is our highest priority and the loss of this individual is a shock to us all. We extend our deepest sympathy to his family and loved ones.”
