Croatian Hall's anniversary party brings 'sense of excitement' for its future

A young Croatian band played its first Northern Ontario gig at the celebration

SCHUMACHER - A lively dinner and dance marked a cultural group's anniversary.

The Croatian Society Schumacher marked its 92nd anniversary this month, bringing in young Croatian band Zlatni List from Hamilton to play their first Northern Ontario performance.

“We were very thankful to come to Schumacher to perform at the Croatian Hall’s 92nd anniversary. Truly a great time we had and we’re very happy to have shared in this milestone celebration. We hope to be back soon," said bass player Erik Horvat.

The night included homemade cabbage rolls, barbecued pork and many delicious Croatian cookies.

"It was a very special evening,” said Jasmine Chenier, Croatian Society Schumacher president. “You could feel the energy in the room. All ages enjoyed the night, which was filled with laughter, memories, and a sense of excitement for the future of the hall."

The group is fundraising to renovate the historic hall on Schumacher's main street.

“We’ve already begun work on a ramp so that we can have a fully accessible upstairs hall. We continue to run our ‘buy a brick campaign’ for our ongoing fundraising efforts, and are starting to plan for our buy a brick donor wall," said Chenier.
