Sudbury Sport & Social Club has some exciting news for the Timmins community.  A new flag football league is set to kick off in August. This is the first league ever run in Timmins.

The co-ed league will include six to eight teams with a recommended nine to 12 players on each roster. This is a self-officiated league that will start on Aug. 20 and will run until September 24 with all games held at Roland Michener Secondary School in South Porcupine. The registration deadline is set for Aug. 9.

Sport & Social Club is an international organization with co-ed rec teams in everything from soccer and football to bowling and hockey. It is the biggest organization of its kind in the world, having just added their 100,000th team. Founder and Sudbury local Kristi Herold started the business in 1996 in Toronto and brought it to Northern Ontario in 2011.  The organization stretches into 11 markets, including Toronto, Mississauga, Hamilton, Kitchener-Waterloo, Cambridge, Brantford, York Region and Sudbury, as well as Grand Rapids & Kalamazoo in Michigan.

“As a born and bred Northern Ontario girl, I’m thrilled to be working with my team to help get our leagues operating in Timmins. I’m incredibly passionate about getting people to Keep Playing!’’

‘’No matter where we live, or how old we are, everyone wins from the physical and mental health benefits that come with playing recreational sports,’’ Herold said.
