Get ready for a night of classic Blockbuster tunes.

The Timmins Symphony Orchestra and Northern Ontario Expo have teamed up for a show featuring music from some of the biggest hit films.

Movie Blockbusters is on stage Saturday, Nov. 2 at Ecole secondaire catholique Theriault at 7:30 p.m.

With the help of the Northern Ontario Expo, TSO conductor Joshua Wood said there are going to be extra things happening for the performance.

For some of the pieces like Star Wars and Jurassic Park, he said they will be in costume, and there will be visual effects as well.

“There’s going to be some cool stuff, it’s going to be a really fun night,” he said.

The audience is encouraged to get involved in the fun as well.

Everyone who wears a costume will be entered into a draw to win prizes.

“I would be thrilled if there were a couple hundred kids there in costume. And adults are welcome to dress up too,” said Wood.

It's been a couple of years since the TSO staged a movie-themed concert.

Wood said you can expect to hear music from Lord of the Rings, Indiana Jones, Batman, Superman, Avengers, and more.

“It’s this really big, sweeping music that’s just a lot of fun to play and really a lot of fun to listen to as well,” he said.

He hopes it's a show that will widen the orchestra's audience base and introduce people to what they do.

Later on in the season, he noted there's a Christmas concert with a brass quintet, a group doing a tribute to Billy Joel and Elton John, and the last concert features a choir and violin concerto.

“It's just a little bit of everything. We want to introduce people to that, we’re not a stuffy organization. We like to have fun and we enjoy what we do and we want people to experience a lot of spectacle, that’s what we offer,” he said.

Tickets for the show are available at the Timmins Museum National Exhibition Centre.

The cost is $34 for silver seats, $39 for red, and $15 for under 30.

They can also be bought at the door, however Wood suggests getting them in advance because shows like this traditionally sell very well.
