IROQUOIS FALLS - Charges have been laid after three people fell victim to a "grandparent scam."
The incidents unfolded in Iroquois Falls last week.
On Jan. 22, a suspect called an Iroquois Falls residence asking for money for their grandson, who the scammer claimed had been in a car accident, said South Porcupine OPP.
The next day, police received reports of a similar scam at two separate residences in the community. In this case, the scammer said the victims' grandson was in custody and asked for cash.
Two people have been charged.
A 53-year-old from Montreal is charged with four counts of fraud over $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
The accused is in police custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 29.
