Accused in intimate partner violence investigation also charged with impaired

MATTICE-VAL CÔTÉ - The accused in an intimate partner violence (IPV) investigation is also facing impaired driving charges. 

Yesterday (Oct. 7) around noon, JamesBay OPP received an IPV call in Mattice-Val Côté.

Police say they found grounds for criminal charges against one person, who officers found around 3 p.m. in a vehicle in a parking lot on Neegan Crescent. Officers determined the suspect had been drinking and the driver was brought to the Hearst detachment for testing. 

A 59-year-old from Mattice-Val Côté is charged with: 

  • Assault with a weapon - spousal
  • Criminal harassment - repeatedly communicate
  • 4 counts of failure to comply with an undertaking
  • Operation while impaired - alcohol
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Dangerous operation

The accused is in police custody and has a court appearance in Hearst today. Their licence was also suspended for 90 days and their vehicle was impounded for seven days.

"Due to the intimate partner nature of the incident, the name of the accused will not be released in order to protect the identity of the victim. If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic abuse, you're not alone," reads an OPP news release.
