MOOSE FACTORY - A disturbance in a remote Northern Ontario community led to two southern Ontario men being charged with drug trafficking.
Nishnawbe Aski Police Service officers were called to a Quachegan Street residence in Moose Factory for a disturbance on Saturday, Nov. 2.
There were two small children living in the residence where police learned there was suspected drug trafficking activity taking place.
At the home, two male suspects were inside, with one trying to give a false name, said police in a news release.
In the police investigation, illicit drugs — including suspected methamphetamine, fentanyl, hydromorphone, oxycodone and codeine — were seized. Police also seized cash, two knives and drug trafficking paraphernalia.
Mustafa Rasheed Ekiz, 19, of Toronto, is charged with:
- Possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking
- Possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking
- Carrying a concealed weapon
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
- Obstructing a peace officer
The accused was released from police custody with conditions.
Jasdeep Parhar, 30, of Kitchener, is charged with:
- Possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking
- Possession of hydromorphone for the purpose of trafficking
- Possession of oxycodone for the purpose of trafficking
- Possession of codeine for the purpose of trafficking
- Possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking
- Carrying a concealed weapon
- Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
- Obstructing a peace officer
The accused had a bail hearing on Nov. 3 and remains in custody at Monteith Correctional Complex.
None of the charges have been tested in court and the accused are considered innocent unless proven guilty.
