Teen charged with attempted murder in Cobalt

A 16-year-old girl is in hospital with life-threatening injuries

COBALT - An 18-year-old is charged with attempted murder after an incident that put a girl in the hospital with life-threatening injuries, says police. 

On Nov. 3 around 6 p.m., Temiskaming OPP responded to a car crash at the intersection of Helen Street and Prospect Street in Cobalt. 

Police say there was an "altercation" between an 18-year-old man and a 16-year-old girl, who received life-threatening injuries and remains in the hospital.

"Investigators believe this is an isolated incident and there are no concerns for public safety," reads an OPP news release.

The 18-year-old is charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and breach of conditional sentence order.

The accused remains in police custody and is scheduled to appear in a Haileybury court on Nov. 12. Police say they aren't releasing the name of the accused to protect the identity of the victim.
