The Timmins Police Service has located and arrested a man linked to a call for service regarding the discharge of a firearm at a Sixth Avenue apartment building during the late evening hours of Monday, Jan. 4, 2021.
The responding Timmins Police Service officers who attended the original call for service on the evening of Jan. 4 found it necessary to contain the immediate area for public safety reasons.
The Timmins Police had deployed its Emergency Response Team and contained the immediate area where two men were eventually taken into custody the following morning, roughly 12 hours later.
By means of investigation, those men were eventually cleared of any involvement in the firearm incident and an arrest warrant was sought for Lawrence Nakogee, age 29, of Timmins.
Timmins Police officers responded to a disturbance at a Mountjoy Street South apartment yesterday evening (Feb 9) to find Nakogee present.
As a result, Nakogee was arrested on the strength of the arrest warrant and taken into custody to answer to the following charges:
- Careless use of a firearm contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
- Pointing a firearm contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
- Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
- Assault with a weapon contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
- Two counts of possession of a firearms or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
The suspect remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for today at provincial court in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against him.
Additionally, Bobby Wesley, 30, of no fixed address was arrested at the apartment as he physically interfered with Nakogee's arrest.
Wesley is charged with:
- Resist a peace officer contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
- Obstruct a peace officer contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
- Possession of a controlled substance contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act
Wesley was released from police custody this morning on the strength of an undertaking compelling him to attend provincial court on March 10 to answer to the charges laid against him.
As well, Katrina Gagnon, 34, of Timmins was found within the apartment and was arrested on the strength of an arrest warrant held by an external law enforcement agency.
She remained in custody until she was turned over to the Ontario Provincial Police yesterday evening in regards to the arrest warrant held by that agency.
