KIRKLAND LAKE - A driver who hit a snowbank and tree with open containers of alcohol in the vehicle has been charged with impaired.
The single-vehicle crash happened on March 1 around 11:20 p.m. on Carter Avenue in Kirkland Lake.
Kirkland Lake OPP says the vehicle was found off of the roadway and had hit a snowbank and tree. Officers determined the driver had been drinking and could see open containers of alcohol in the vehicle.
A 32-year-old man from Kirkland Lake is charged with:
- Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration 80 plus
- Operation while impaired by alcohol
- Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor
- Driving while under suspension
The accused's licence is suspended for 90 days and the vehicle is impounded for seven days.
None of the charges have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
