KIRKLAND LAKE - A man who allegedly concealed an imitation BB handgun and was wearing protective equipment under his jacket is facing a number of charges.
Around 10 a.m. on Nov. 21, Kirkland Lake OPP officers on general patrol in the Government Road area saw a person wanted for an a prior incident.
When officers tried to arrest the suspect, police say he tried to access their belt area and officers "quickly controlled" the situation.
Police say the suspect was concealing an imitation BB handgun and was wearing protective gear under his winter jacket. They also found a second BB handgun, handcuffs and military-style replica equipment in the suspect's backpack.
A 40-year-old man from Kirkland Lake is charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and carrying a concealed weapon.
The accused remains in police custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 12.
None of the charges have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
