KIRKLAND LAKE - A suspect fleeing from police allegedly dropped a replica handgun and bear spray before surrendering.
On Jan. 4 around 9:45 p.m., an OPP officer patrolling Government Road in Kirkland Lake saw a person breaking their release conditions.
When the officer told the person they were under arrest, OPP says the suspect discarded a replica handgun and bear spray on the ground before surrendering to police.
A 26-year-old man from Kirkland Lake is charged with:
- Failure to comply with undertaking
- Fail to comply with probation order
- 2 counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order
- Carry concealed prohibited device or ammunition
- Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition
- Resist peace officer
The accused was remanded in police custody and is scheduled to appear in court in Kirkland Lake on Feb. 27.
None of the charges have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
