Missing ATV battery call leads to drug trafficking charges

CONSTANCE LAKE FIRST NATION - A call about a missing ATV battery turned into a drug trafficking charge. 

On Monday, Oct. 21, the Nishnawbe Ask Police Service (NAPS) received a call for service about a missing ATV battery in Constance Lake First Nation. While investigating, police say they came into contact with a man thought to breaking a conditional release order. 

The man was arrested. 

Police say he had suspected crystal methamphetamine, which was seized as evidence for an ongoing drug trafficking investigation. 

A 29-year-old man from Constance Lake First Nation is charged with possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking, and five counts of failing to comply with a release order. 

The accused had a bail hearing on Tuesday, Oct. 22 and remains in police custody.

None of the charges have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
