ATTAWAPISKAT - An ongoing drug trafficking investigation in the Far North had police seize over $63,000 in drugs and cash.
The morning of Thursday, Oct. 3, Nishnawbe Aski Police Service (NAPS) executed a search warrant at an Attawapiskat First Nation.
Police seized suspected Oxycontin pills, Percocet pills, methamphetamine pills, and drug trafficking paraphernalia. The estimated street value of the drugs is $52,000.
More than $11,500 in cash, which police believe was obtained through drug trafficking, was also seized.
Two people in the home were arrested without incident, says NAPS.
Ryan Louttit, 34, and Patience Cassie Cedar Koostachin, 27, both of Attawapiskat are each charged with:
- Possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking
- Possession of Oxycodone for the purpose of trafficking
- Possession of Percocet for the purpose of trafficking
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
Both of the accused had a bail hearing on Friday, OCt. 4. Koostachin remains in police custody. Louttit was released with conditions. Both will appear in court again at a later date.
None of the charges have been tested in court and the accused are considered innocent unless proven guilty.
