Police find brass knuckles in search of man arrested for impaired driving

Cops also seized a small amount of oxycodone

James Bay OPP seized brass knuckles arresting an impaired driving suspect in Cochrane.

COCHRANE - An early-morning traffic stop led to impaired driving charges and the seizure of a prohibited weapon. 

Around 1:30 a.m. on Dec. 8, James Bay OPP pulled over a vehicle on Ninth Avenue in Cochrane. 

Officers determined the driver had been drinking and during the arrest police say they found brass knuckles, which is a prohibited weapon, and a small amount of oxycodone. 

A 34-year-old man from Cochrane is charged with:

  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand
  • Possession of imitation weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Unauthorized possession of a weapon
  • Occupant of a motor vehicle knowing there was a prohibited weapon
  • Possession of a schedule I substance - oxycodone

The accused was released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in a Cochrane court on Jan. 28. Their licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

None of the charges have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
