South Porcupine teen facing 19 charges, including sexual assault, forcible confinement

The alleged incidents happened in Kapuskasing from 2020-23

A South Porcupine teen is facing over a dozen serious charges in relation to alleged incidents that happened in Kapuskasing over three years, says police. 

On July 25 around 11 a.m., South Porcupine OPP, Timmins Police and the North East Region OPP bail support team executed a search warrant on Main Street in South Porcupine. 

The warrant was related to alleged offences that happened in Kapuskasing between September 2020 and March 2023.

Ninteen-year-old Jeremy Bernier of South Porcupine is charged with:

  • 3 counts of sexual assault on a person under 16 years of age
  • Sexual interference
  • Invitation to sexual touching under 16 years of age
  • Forcible confinement
  • Assault
  • 8 counts of failure to comply with undertaking
  • Failure to attend court
  • 2 counts of failure to attend court after having appeared
  • Failure to attend for fingerprints

After being arrested, the accused was brought to the Kapuskasing OPP detachment because that's where the alleged crimes occurred. 

The accused was released from custody on July 26 at a bail hearing. He is next scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 12 in Kapuskasing.

None of the charges have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
