Timmins man faces assault, weapons charges

The Timmins Police Service has investigated a disturbance that occurred yesterday afternoon (March 3) at a Fourth Avenue apartment building in Schumacher where a woman was [allegedly] assaulted.

Based on investigation, it was determined that an argument between tenants of the building escalated to the point where a male suspect assaulted two persons, one of which sustained injury to her hand requiring medical attention.

The suspect fled the scene on foot but was located by the Timmins Police shortly after the original incident took place.

When approached by the police, [it is alleged that] the suspect engaged in hostile and resistant behaviour but was eventually taken into police custody.

As a result, Victor Gunner, 33 of Timmins, has been charged with:
    •    three counts of assault with a weapon contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    assault contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    theft under $5,000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    possession of property obtained by crime contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    resist arrest contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    two counts of fail to comply with probation order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused remains in police custody for the purposes of a bail hearing slated for today at the Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against him.
