Transport truck driver charged with impaired at Matheson-area RIDE program

The driver's license is suspended for 90 days and the CMV is impounded for seven days

MATHESON - The driver of transport truck is facing impaired driving charges after a RIDE program in the Matheson area. 

On July 16 around 3 p.m., OPP set up a RIDE program at the intersection of Highway 101 and Highway 572 in Hislop Township, which is east of Matheson on the road to Quebec.

A commercial motor vehicle (CMC) was stopped, which resulted in the 47-year-old driver from Rouyn-Noranda, Que., being charged with operation while impaired - drugs, and driving with a hand-held communication device. 

The driver's license is suspended for 90 days and the CMV is impounded for seven days. The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in court in Timmins on Sept. 5. 

None of the charges have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
