Vehicle stuck on train tracks leads to impaired charge for Timmins driver

A 24-year-old driver from Timmins is facing impaired charges after their vehicle got stuck on the train tracks in Kapuskasing.

KAPUSKASING - A Timmins man is facing impaired charges after getting his vehicle stuck on the train tracks in Kapuskasing. 

Around 5:45 a.m. today (Jan. 14), James Bay OPP was called about a vehicle that was stuck after driving onto the train tracks at the intersection of Government Road and Brunelle Road.

Police called the rail company to make sure no trains were operating in the area, and by the time officers arrived at the scene the vehicle had been pushed off of the tracks, said police in a news release. 

A 24-year-old man from Timmins is charged with operation while impaired - alcohol, and operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus). 

The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in court in Kapuskasing on Feb. 24. 

His license is suspended for 90 days and their vehicle was impounded for seven days. 

None of the charges have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
