COCHRANE - A snowmobiler prohibited from driving is facing impaired charges.
On March 1 around midnight, James Bay OPP set up a RIDE program on Glackmeyer Concession 6 and 7 at the Genier Road intersection. A snowmobiler at the checkpoint refused to give a breath sample and was arrested.
Police say the driver had two sealed cans of beer. The accused was also criminally prohibited from driving and was bound by a peace bond.
A 47-year-old man from Cochrane is charged with:
- Operation while impaired - alcohol
- Failure or refusal to comply with demand
- Operation while prohibited under the criminal code
- Breach of recognizance
- Driving while under suspension (HTA)
- Drive - no insurance
- Fail to securely fasten helmet chin strap
The accused was released from police custody and appears in court on April 15 in Cochrane. His license was also suspended for 90 days.
None of the charges have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
